Charles (Bob) Robert Negro
About:
Charles Robert (Bob) Negro, 96, of Sheridan, Wyoming and long-time resident of Lovell, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Sheridan.
Bob was born in Greybull, Wyoming on February 7, 1930, to Charles C (Chuck) and Ardella (Dell) Negro, the first of four children, and spent his school years in Byron and Lovell.
He met and began dating Carol Winterholler in Lovell. When her family moved to Federal Way, Washington during her junior year of high school he thought it was over. Bob joined the US Navy in 1950 and fate intervened! He was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island in Washington State and they resumed dating. Bob and Carol were married in Auburn, Washington on September 27, 1952. After Bob was discharged from the Navy in 1954 he and Carol agreed to move back to Lovell “for one year” to work with his father, Chuck, operating the Big Horn Market, which became the Big Horn IGA and later the Red Apple Supermarket. They raised four children in Lovell - Barb, Lori, Mitch and Kathi - and continued to operate the family business until retiring in 2002. They moved to Sheridan in 2004. Bob and Carol enjoyed spending time with their kids. We will always remember summer day trips to the Big Horns and road trips to Cannon Beach, Oregon. The Cannon Beach tradition has caught hold through the newest generation of the family.
During their retirement, Bob and Carol were able to spend many winters in Hawaii where they met with friends and explored the sights and military installations.
Bob was proud to serve his country and a highlight for him was taking a Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, DC, in 2017 with Carol as his chaperone. He had a passion for military history, especially the World War II era. He installed a War Memorial in the grocery store to honor local veterans, and it is still on display in The Market in Lovell. He worked to build the Veterans Park in downtown Lovell and to name the Johnny Winterholler Gymnasium after the revered local athlete and war hero. One of Bob’s proud achievements was “Taking Lovell Back to the ‘40s” in the summer of 1985. He managed to convince famed Flying Tiger aviators Tex Hill and Noel Bacon to travel to Lovell and be Grand Marshals for the Mustang Days Parade – and to join a cookout in his backyard. Bob also built a military museum in his basement in Sheridan, where he displayed his artifacts. He enjoyed sharing it with his guests.
Bob is survived by his wife of almost 74 years, Carol of Sheridan, daughter Barbara (Frank) Holvik of Kristiansand, Norway; daughter Lori (Brad) Feather of Worland; son Mitch (Annette) Negro of Litchfield Park, Arizona; daughter Kathi (David) Johnson of Sheridan; grandson Andreas (Natassja) and their daughters Liva and Simone Holvik of Kristiansand, Norway; granddaughter Katherine Holvik of London, England; grandson Jared (Mandy) and their daughters Ridley and Piper Feather of Worland; grandson Ian (Jazmin) and their son Cooper Feather of Sheridan; grandson Tyler (Jessica Groves) and their son Miles Negro of North Salt Lake, Utah; granddaughter Brittany (Tyler) Bauer of Billings and granddaughter Nicole (Jordan) Layne of Lovell. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Sessions of Casper and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Dell, sister Carol Peterson-Spitler and brother Donald Negro.
