About:

Nicky Edward Voogd, 69, passed away Sunday October 4th, 2026, at his childhood family home in Sheridan Wy.

Nick was born May 23rd,1957 in Sheridan to Margret “Peggy” Agnes (Harrison) Voogd and Clarence Earl Voogd. He was the eldest of 4 children. Nick was their “wild child” and if you asked Peggy, she’d tell you she earned every grey hair she had from him, but that never took away from the unconditional love they shared.

Nick worked various jobs in his younger years until settling into a roofing business with his close friend Pete. Once he could no longer roof, worked for the sawmill until they closed. After the sawmill closed nick found work for a local construction company where he was a highway flagger and overnight supervisor.

Nick had a daughter in August 1988 and nearly a decade later he met the love of his life Darlene “DeeJay”. Nick was never getting married, but he promised DeeJay if she stayed with him for 2 years, he would marry her. When the two-year mark came around Brad Taylor reminded Nick he had made a promise, Nick was going to keep his promise. Nick and Deejay were married July 1st, 2000, in the beautiful bighorn mountains, and they spent the last 25 years of their lives together making memories and honoring their vows to one another.

He enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, drinking beer, and watching football with his lifelong best friend Brad. Nick was a loving husband, father and trusted friend, but his proudest title was Grandpa. Nick loved his grandchildren more than anything, and they knew it too! He soiled them rotten! He was truly one of a kind. He lived his life with integrity and purpose. He rarely complained. He built unbreakable bonds with the ones he loved, and the love he shared was unique. He didn't always say it, but in a quiet room you felt it. A feeling of peace and comfort. A feeling of home.

He is survived by his daughter Stephanie Rushin of Sheridan, his sister Terri Voogd of Sheridan, his grandchildren Kendyl, Maycie and Landyn, and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Peggy and Earl Voogd, his wife Darlene Voogd and younger brothers Danny and David Voogd.

His presence on earth will be profoundly missed, but his memory and legacy will never be forgotten and will live on through the ones that he loved.
