Susan K. Jones, 72 of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away surrounded by her loving family at INOVA Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia.
Her parents, grandparents. and several aunts, uncles, and cousins preceded Susan in death. She is survived by her brother, Robert David Jones of West Palm Beach, Florida, and his wife , Pamela; her niece,Alissa Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; nephews Benjamin Jones of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Adam Jones of North Palm Beach, Florida, and his wife, Chrystal, and daughter, Peyton Monroe Jones; and her sister, Helen Jones Skillman of Ashburn, Virginia.
Susan grew up in Sheridan, Wyoming, and attended Sheridan High School before moving to Mt. Rainier, Maryland, where she attend Northwestern Senior High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, and graduated in 1968.She attended the University of Maryland for almost three years. Susan later moved to Virginia and went to work for Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation in Dranesville, Virginia as a pipeliner. She transferred to Columbia's Corporate Office in Charleston, West Virginia, with the Gas Control Department as a Gas Controller. She moved back to Virginia and retired as District Superintendent forlocations in Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia. Susan loved working for this company and developed many long-lasting friend ships during her 26 years of service. After she retired, she was rehired as a contractor with Columbia Gas.
Susan donated her time as a volunteer for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church's Food Program, which provides food for children in need at Dranesville Elementary School in Herndon, Virginia. This program ensures that these children are fed each weekend throughout the school year.
Susan was an avid fan of the Maryland Terrapin's football and basket ball teams. She loved to travel to Florida, Hilton Head, and Myrtle Beach,South Carolina. Susan loved life and was always grateful for any adventure in which she could participate.
Graveside Services will be held at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Preschool at1133 Reston Ave., Herndon, VA, 20170.
