Sandra “Sandi” Kay Greenough, 78, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at her residence with her family by her side.Sandra (Sandi) Kay (Beard) Greenough interrupted her family’s trip to Billings, Montana from Minnesota when they had to stop for her birth in Grand Forks,North Dakota on June 18, 1942. Her parents, Joe and “Arni” Beard were moving the family to Billings to help Sandi’s maternal Grandpa Charlie at a Billingsrestaurant. Sandi’s parents, Joe and “Arni” worked at the Northern Hotel, cooking and bartending, becoming well known in the Billings restaurant business.From Billings, the family moved to Kalispell, Montana; Mesa, Arizona; and Boulder, Colorado; eventually returning to Coon Rapids, Minnesota where Sandifinished high school.Sandi said, “We were like gypsies”!Sandi was an Air Force wife who lived briefly in Dover, Delaware where Sandi’s only daughter, Shelley, was born. Shortly thereafter, Sandi and Shelley returnedto Minnesota and then moved to California.Sandi worked at Camp Pendleton in California as secretary of the Base Stables and as the Base Rodeo Coordinator. She worked for Colonel Ace Bowen who was abig rodeo fan. In one of the pictures of the Base Rodeo team, Sandi’s German Shepherd Dog, Joe, named after her father, and is pictured as the mascot of theteam.It was at Camp Pendleton that she met a Marine, Charles Holmes, who was originally from the Sundance, Wyoming area. Sandi and Charles married and Charles adopted Shelley. Charles, Sandi and Shelley moved to the Sheridan area where they lived and worked to include TeePee Lodge and the Jack Chase Ranch. Charles passed in 1974.Sandi then opened a dog grooming shop and groomed dogs for 32 years. The shop remains open to this day.In November 1987, Sandi married Pat Greenough. Sandi and Pat ranched on Prairie Dog Creek. During their ranching time, Sandi and Pat were introduced tothe working stock dog and its skillfulness, primarily border collies. They were founding members of the Wyoming Stockdog Association (WSDA). Sandi alsoserved a term as President of the WSDA.The Greenoughs were instrumental in introducing ranchers to the importance of trained working stock dogs in ranching operations. Several clinics, lessons andtrials were organized and held at the Greenough ranch. Most notably, Sandi and Pat coordinated and hosted 2 USBCHA (United Stated Border Collie HandlersAssociation) National Sheepdog Trials at the Equestrian Center in Big Horn which brought handlers and dogs from all over the United States and the world.In 2017, Sandi and Pat were honored as WSDA Legends for their promotion and contribution to the working stock dog in Wyoming.The Greenoughs later sold the ranch on Prairie Dog Creek and opened the Country Pet Inn Boarding facility on Beaver Creek Road.Sandi loved the ranch life, anything to do with livestock, dogs and horses. Her love of rodeos saw her always taking Shelley to horse shows and rodeos whenShelly was young.Sandi enjoyed a good party and knew how to throw one, no matter where she lived, Birney, Sheridan, Prairie Dog Creek and Beaver Creek.Sandi passed at her home on Beaver Creek Road on June 18 th , 2020.Sandi leaves her loving and devoted husband of 33 years, Pat Greenough; her daughter, Shelley (Holmes) Swanson; 4 grandchildren; Shantel Petry, Nicole Lyden( Brian), Robert Petry (Sam), Randy Petry; and 7 great grandchildren; Landon, Logan, Madison, Natalie, Tyler, Preston and Benjamin; Pat’s children; Greg,Kelly(Marvin), Vince and grandson, Dylan as well as her youngest sister, Carol (Jack) Underhill. She will be remembered by the many friends she made over theyears especially a dear friend of over 55 years, Suzie Puckett; as well as very close friends and neighbors, Jim and Debbie Cosner, Dave and Ann Brown and ShirleyKadrmas.Sandi was preceded in death by Sandi’s parents, Joe and Arni; her older brother, Ron; her horses and dogs, Joe, Dolly and Brooks.Memorials in Sandi’s honor may be made to: Dog and Cat Shelter of Sheridan, WY or USBCHA (United States Border Collie Handlers Association) NationalSheepdog Finals, c/o Marianna Schreeder, USBCHA Treasurer, 3195 Lee Street SE, Smyrna, GA 30080.A celebration of Sandi’s life will be held at the Elks Lodge in Sheridan on Saturday, June 27 th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.
