Ronald Gene Reece
About:
Ronald Gene Reece (better known to friends as Shooter), 75, of Story Wyoming passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Saddle Ridge Therapy surrounded by his family, after battling more than a decade with Parkinson’s Disease. Ron was born in Wabash, Indiana on June 29, 1949 to Richard Gail Reece and Norma Jean (Smith) Reece. He was the second of four children; James (Jim) Reece, Mark Reece, and Tamra Reece.
Ron grew up in Marion, Indiana where he spent many hours with his brothers adventuring around shooting pool; something he was passionate about throughout his life. As a young man he and his brother Mark spent many seasons trapping, hunting, fishing, and racing motorbikes. Ron fell in love with Wyoming during the many family hunting adventures with his father and brothers in the northeast part of the state. In his early teens Ron worked at Crystal Laundry during the summer of 1963 & ’64, before going to work full-time in 1965 for Owens-Illinois Glass Factory. In 1968 he was offered a job at Kokomo Chrysler Corporation in the Transmission Department where he worked until 1970 when he went to work for Sheriff & Goslon Roofing. Ron enjoyed the construction field and was a true craftsman. In 1971 he and his two brothers started Concrete and Masonry Construction where he worked until 1976.
Ron met Linda (Davis) Reece of Jonesboro, Indiana in 1965 at Mississinewa High School. They quickly fell in love and were married on July 2, 1967 at Friends Church in Jonesboro. In 1968 their family grew with the arrival of their first son, Randy Lee Reece, and again in 1969 with the arrival of their second son, Kevin Dwayne Reece.
In 1976 the family moved to Sheridan. Ron went to work for Christensen Construction, but chasing his dream he also started his own businesses; Ron Reece Construction (1976 – 2020) and Piney Creek Outfitters (1980 – 1998). During a slow construction period he also worked for an out-of-state company building sunrooms in Michigan and Colorado. Ron was an avid outdoorsman and spent countless hours hunting, trapping, and fishing his beloved Big Horn Mountains. There wasn’t a place on the mountain he didn’t explore and his knowledge of the Big Horns was second to none. As an outfitter he guided numerous black bear, deer, elk, moose, and mountain lion hunters on “the hunt of a lifetime”. Ron loved his family dearly and enriched their lives with this same love of the outdoors and Big Horn Mountains.
Ron is survived by his life partner Linda Reece of Story Wyoming, his son Randy (Esther) Reece of Sheridan, Wyoming; son Kevin Reece (Kristy Ward) of Cowley, Wyoming; five grandchildren Joseph (Ashley) Reece of Sheridan; Kelsey Reece of Sheridan; Hunter (Celena) Reece of Sheridan; Jaime (Rique) Aguado of Sheridan, and Kendra Schneider of Billings, MT; five great-grandchildren; his sister Tamra Reece of Gas City, Indiana; and his aunt Judy (Gene) Eckerly of Mishawaka, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Norma Jean Reece; his brothers James Reece and Mark Reece; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family is especially grateful to the Day Break staff at the Hub on Smith Street and the staff at Saddle Ridge Therapy who cared for Ron over the past several months, and also to the many friends who visited him. Ron was loved by his family and countless friends, and will be deeply missed.
