View Service Folder|Click for Video Tribute Robert (Bob) L. Adsit of Sheridan, passed away on August 19, 2019 at Greenhouse Living for Sheridan. Bob had just celebrated his 88th birthday with his family.Bob was born August 1, 1931 to Alice Irene Sayer and Howard Edwin Adsit in Sheridan, Wyoming. His parents were living and working at the U.M. Ranch in Buffalo, WY when he was born. Two years later his brother, George, was born.Bob grew up with his brother, George, and his Mother, Alice, and their family dog, Cubby, on Park Street in Sheridan. His Dad, Howard, passed away suddenly at home on June 13, 1945. This was at the time of World War II and times were very difficult. Bob, at the age of 14, and George, 12, went to work to help their mother provide for the family. He attended Sheridan schools and on May 29, 1947, he received his Sheridan Public Schools Diploma for completing Elementary grades. He went to work and was only able to complete the eighth grade. Bob worked at the bowling alley setting pins by hand and he delivered firewood with the help of his grandfather, Charles Sayer, and his mom’s brothers.Bob belonged to the Sheridan Athletic Club and would attend boxing classes held each afternoon at the Salvation Army. He participated in boxing matches with other members of the club at the Elks Lodge with a boxing weight of 112 pounds.September 19, 1950, at the age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Army in the Corps of Engineers with basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas. He served in the infantry and combat engineers for 3 years. Eleven months of that time was served in Korea during the Korean War. Since he was unable to complete his education, he felt the army would help him to learn helpful skills. His assignments included Track Vehicle Mechanic, Welder, and Combat Construction SpecialistHe married Darlene Fleming on May 23, 1953 at the Open Bible church. After their wedding they left for Camp Hood, Texas, where he was stationed, to complete his enlistment.After his Honorable Discharge on September 18, 1953 from Fort Hood, Texas as a Staff Sargent, Bob and Darlene returned to Sheridan and started their family of three children; Linda, Susan, and Ronnie. He returned to his job at Cash Way Lumber and also worked for Amil Livingston’s Salvage Yard driving a wrecker truck. Bob later went to work on road construction jobs where he operated a gravel crusher and was a mechanic on heavy equipment. The family moved a lot but dad always said, “At least he had his family with him” and that was important. Bob went to work at Shirley Basin uranium mine near Casper, WY and the family spent several years in Casper, WY.Darlene, his wife of 17 years passed away suddenly on August 3, 1970. Bob married Leona Curtis on June 12, 1973. Leona brought 4 children to their marriage; Earl, Donald, Janet and Joe.Sheridan was always home and Dad had the opportunity to “come home” to Sheridan when he went to work for Decker Coal in 1974. After retirement from Decker Coal in 1994, he went to work for the Polo Ranch in Big Horn, WY. He retired from the Polo Ranch in 2010 to work in his garden, enjoy his chickens, and work in his shop that he enjoyed so much. He could hardly wait until it was time to plant his garden. He took a lot of pride in making sauerkraut and horseradish fresh from his garden. There was always lots of zucchini, tomatoes and cucumbers for the whole family!He loved camping and fishing (“roughing it,”as Dad would say) at our special place in the Big Horn Mountains. He especially enjoyed a frying pan of fresh brook trout cooked over the campfire for breakfast. Hunting camp was a family trip every year that he shared with his brother George and George\'s wife, Flora Mae, and the whole family.We have great memories of family time, sharing holidays (he cooked the turkey), camping, barbecues, and many family birthdays. He was so proud to watch his grandkids playing sports and was excited for visits from his grandkids. They soon found his stash of cookies and pop in his shop refrigerator.On June 10, 2012, Bob lost his 2nd wife, Leona. They were married 39 yearsBob was preceded in death by his parents, his wives and his brother George W. Adsit.He is survived by his children; Linda (Andy) Lewallen, Susan (late Tom Fleury) and Ron (Chris) Adsit; stepchildren; Earl Curtis, Don (Tami) Curtis, Janet (Brad) Meich and Joe Adsit; his grandchildren; Shawn (Adrienne) Lewalllen, Amy (Jack) Fleenor, Mandy (Mark) Nicholls, Cassie (Jamie) Diamond, Cheynoah Fleury, TJ Fleury, Cory (Shawn), Krabbenhoft Ashlee (Tracy)Weil Ryan Adsit, Amanda Moore, Venessa Curtis, Jennifer Alden, Catherine Alden, Tommy Alden,Angie, Mikayla, and Kendall Miech, Dustin Curtis Douann Curtis; his many great grandchildren who he loved and who always brought a big smile when they came to visit. He shared his birthday with his great granddaughter, Maddie Mae Diamond. He had just met his great great grandson, Walker Wilson, at his 88th birthday celebration. Bob is also survived by one niece, Terri Adsit, and many cousins and relatives in the Sheridan area.His best friend and forever companion, his dog “Lady,” will be with him forever. Lady was a very big part of his life and he loved her very much. Lady was a little spoiled with treats but she was always by his side. For as long as she could, Lady went most everyday to visit and be with him at Greenhouse.To honor Bob, you may donate in Bob’s name to the Family Caregiver Support Group to support caregivers caring for loved ones c/o Stella Montano, The HUB of Sheridan, 211 Smith Street, Sheridan, WY 82801. Services will be 10 AM, Friday, September 6, 2019 at Kane Funeral Home with Father Glen Whewell officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Mility Honors. A reception with lunch will be at Holy Name Parish Hall following the inurnment.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.
