Richard Allen Hoover (Dick) was born to Clarence Stanley Hoover and Cathrine (Eisenhauer) Hoover in Lebanon, PA on April 22, 1942. He passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 75, on Sunday morning of June 25, 2017, after an extended struggle with cancer. After a stint in the Army served in Germany, he saw Pennsylvania in his rear view mirror as he headed to Texas in the 60’s and then to Story, WY in 1993. He came to Dallas to put his printing and creative talents to work and enjoyed many years serving several large corporations in their marketing needs. Then it was time for a new creative endeavor and one of his best yet.As the creator of the Piney Creek General Store and The Waldorf A’ Story Restaurant he entertained the community with his marketing skills and turned these two local establishments into what became a destination for the locals and all their extended families and really pushed the limits of creativity. It was THE gathering place in town and still holds fond memories for many. From the very beginning he added all sorts of gourmet foods and items not available locally which kept the community of not only Story, but the whole state, clamoring to gain entrance. Events were always being planned, such as First Sunday Trade Days, to keep things even more interesting.Antique hunting was a passion as was keeping the store well stocked, not only with gourmet goodies, but gifts from around the world. Tinkering and embellishing the building inside and out was another passion. Anything worth doing was worth overdoing…and he did it. His favorite saying about his surroundings here in Story was “It don’t get no gooder!”The Celebration of Dick Hoovers life will be at 11 am Wednesday, July 5th at the Story Woman’s Club, 28 N. Piney Road, Story, WY. Lunch to follow provided by the Woman’s Club members who believe it is their honor to serve their community’s families during this stressful time. Memorials can be made in his name to the Story Woman’s Club Box 103, Story, WY 82842. Dick was preceded in death by his father Clarence but is survived by his mother Cathrine Hoover of Ephrata PA; wife Patricia Griffin Hoover; brother Jerry Hoover (Charlotte Brown), of Las Angeles, CA; daughters Erin Hoover of Morrison, CO and Terri Hoover and son Tom Hoover of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Amy Taylor, Thomas Hoover, Jr., Carleeanna Hoover of Dallas, TX and great grandson Shawn “Dougy” Couser of CO.A special thanks to the Johnson County Healthcare Center and the wonderful Hospice team that took good care of Dick and for doing what you do best.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
