Phyllis Jean Lunbeck, known by all as Jean, began her life on August 15, 1924, in Story, Wyoming. Ninety four years later, she slipped away quietly in her sleep, September 13, 2018 in the place she preferred to be more than any other, her home in Story, Wyoming.In the 1880s, Jean’s grandparents and great grandparents, along with numerous other relatives, loaded up their belongings, formed their own wagon train, and headed out from Iowa to Wyoming! Jean was the 8th child of 9, born to J.W. and Mary B Huggins. Jean attended grades 1-10 in the Story School, with her last 2 years of high school in Sheridan. She married George Amos Lunbeck July 3, 1942, in Paris, Idaho. They had three children, George A, John, and Patti, all of them, currently residing, with their families in Story as well! Amos worked construction so he and Jean spent several years moving to where his job took them, to places like Ohio, New York, Kentucky, North Dakota, and settling back in Story in 1959.Jean will be remembered as an amazing, friendly, kind-hearted person. She held various jobs in Story, some of which included, waitress at the Village Inn restaurant, bus driver for the KearneySchool, and Postmaster at the Story post office from approximately 1960 to 1999, retiring at the age of 75! With any job Jean held, the thing she loved the most was getting to know the people.She was involved in the Community with various organizations as well. She was the president of the Story Woman’s Club, Story Sorority member, in the Story Garden Club, formed the Story Historical Society, and set up the Story Museum.One of Jean’s greatest passions was history! She read everything she could get her hands on regarding local and Wyoming history! She hadan amazing memory, especially regarding dates and names! She also loved ceramics, gardening and, believe it or not, riding motorcycles!Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her 8 siblings, and her husband, George Amos Lunbeck. She is survived by her children, George (Susie) Lunbeck, John (Ardath) Lunbeck, and Patti Olesen, grandsons James and George Lunbeck, David Philmlee, Russell Philmlee, John Lunbeck, Michael Stein and Soren Olesen, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.A visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Kane Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 21, 2018, at the Quiet Rest Cemetery in Story.As we say goodbye to our amazing friend, mother, grandmother, we also celebrate her incredible presence in our lives.
