Peggy Josephine Nejedly Buell, 97, of Buffalo, passed away peacefully December 1, at the Johnson County Hospital. Graveside services will be held in the spring.

Peggy was born November 5,1926 in Gillette, Wyoming to Albert and Flossie Nejedly. She later moved to Sheridan, Wyoming where she attended school.  She graduated from Sheridan High School.

In 1947 she married William E. Matheny and moved to Recluse, Wyoming and lived within 2 miles from where her parents lived when she was born. With this union she became the proud stepmother of William Jack Matheny and Darlene Case. She raised and loved these children like they were her own. She was a very independent ranch wife learning to be an excellent mechanic along with taking care of the livestock on the ranch and milking many cows. She spent many hours cooking for the Matheny Hunting Camp during hunting season. She was also a pilot and belonged to the Flying Farmers while living on the ranch. She was an active member of the Pleasant Hour Ladies Club in Recluse.

In 1971 she moved back to Sheridan after her divorce. She attended Sheridan College working on a teaching degree to help special needs children. During this time, she also worked as a waitress and bartender for The Maverick Supper Club which her sister and brother-in-law owned. She graduated with her associate degree but continued to work at The Maverick Supper Club for 17 years. She was an excellent waitress who took pride in her work and treated her customers with respect. It was there that she would meet her future husband, Miles Buell. Miles would come to the supper club and sit at the bar and try to convince her to go dancing when she got off work. She finally gave in and the rest is a true fairy tale romance. They spent many nights dancing at the Elk's Club, Wagonbox and the Legion Club. They looked beautiful on the dance floor together. They were married on her birthday, November 5, 1971.

Peggy joined Miles working at his Massy Furgeson dealership. She was a dispatcher for the Johnson County Sheriff's Office from 1975-1977. Peggy was not one who could actually retire. She volunteered at the local elementary schools and for the Buffalo Hospice. She also put in many years waitressing at the Pines and working the front desk of the Forest Service. She was also an active member of the Daughter of the Niles. When she was not helping her friends she was busy sewing quilts for her family and friends. She made many beautiful quilts during her life that she gifted to many people.

Peggy's strong faith has always been apparent. She loved attending bible studies with her dear friends and attending church at the Wesleyan Church in Buffalo. Her love of animals was very apparent. She raised geese and fainting goats but nothing compared to the love of her cats and dogs. She always gave them the best care imaginable.

Peggy is survived by her children, Jack Matheny and Darlene Case; six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles Buell, daughter-in-law, Kay Matheny, and son-in-law, Trevor Case; parents and siblings.
