MichaelRobert Stein,53, of  Story, WY passed away on April 19, 2026.

Michael wasborn on August 30, 1972, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to John Robert Steinand Patti Lunbeck. He grew up with a strong sense of independence anda deep appreciation for the outdoors, traits that would define muchof his life.

Michael dedicated 10 years of service to theStory Volunteer Fire Department, where he was known for hiscommitment and willingness to show up when others needed him most.Over the years, he worked a variety of jobs, including as a hotshotdriver, a security officer, and a taxi driver in Deadwood, SouthDakota. Wherever he went, he brought a straightforward attitude, asharp sense of humor, and a knack for making life a little moreinteresting.

In 1998, Michael married Chasity McKinney, andtogether they welcomed their daughter, Madison Rose MarieStein/Anderson. He later welcomed his son, Corey Hansford, bornAugust 10, 2000. His children were an important part of his life, andhe carried pride in them wherever he went.

Michael found hisgreatest joy outdoors. He loved camping, snowmobiling, hiking,motorcycling, and prospecting. He had a spirit for adventure and alove for what he often called “all-around fuckery,” bringinglaughter and unpredictability to those who knew him best. He livedlife on his own terms, unapologetically and fully.

He issurvived by his mother, Patti Lunbeck; his brother, Soren; hisdaughter, Madison; his son, Corey; and numerous aunts, uncles, andcousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, John RobertStein; his grandparents, Jean and George Lunbeck; and his stepfather,Bill Olesen.

A Public Viewing will take place at Champion Kane Funeral Home onTuesday, April 28, 2026 from 2:00 PM – 4PM.

Intermentwill be held in the Story Cemetery officiated by Kim Fuka,onWednesday, April 29, 2026 at 11:00 AM followed by a Reception held atthe Story Women's Club.

Michaelwill be remembered for his resilience, his humor, his love of theoutdoors, and the stories—many unforgettable—that he leavesbehind.
