Larry Adams
About:
Larry Lee Adams passed away peacefully March 21, 2019 in Sheridan, WY. He was born May 11, 1936 in Wheatland, WY to Paul Benjamin and Virginia (King) Adams. He grew up in Wheatland, graduating from Wheatland High School. Shortly after graduation, Larry went to work for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lynn Eshom in Wheatland, and she bore him daughters, Vicki, Sandra, Marty, and son, Paul. The family moved frequently with the phone company, living in towns all over Wyoming, spending a few years in Casper and finally settling in Jackson. There, Larry enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, and snow skiing with his family and friends. Larry and Mary were divorced; and taking a leave of absence from Mountain Bell, Larry went to work for Pacific Bell in California. He soon returned to Wyoming to be nearer his children, and returned to Mountain Bell in Casper. He married Judy (Moore) Pendergraft, adding stepchildren Ken and Becky to his family. They moved to her home town of Big Horn, and Larry became supervisor for Mt. Bell’s installation and repair crew in Sheridan. During their years in Big Horn, they were blessed with a son, Steven. Larry retired from the phone company in 1985, and took a position as communications specialist for the Department of Army at Fort Richie, MD., residing in nearby Waynesboro, PA. After three years there, the family returned to Sheridan where Larry drove school bus for Sheridan and Big Horn schools. He also drove for the Sheridan Senior Center Transportation Dept. for several years, before retiring completely. His love for travel and change led him to move frequently within the state, as well as Pennsylvania and New Mexico; but he repeatedly found himself drawn back to Sheridan and Big Horn. Larry was an active member of Christian churches wherever he went, and was a member of Big Horn Lions Club and Telephone Company Pioneers. In his retirement years, he continued to enjoy fishing, boating, travel, and just seeing new places. No one could be a stranger long around Larry. He made many wonderful, lasting friendships everywhere he went. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joy Martin; and grandson, Dustin Divan. He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Sheridan; daughters Vicki Swanson of Woodbury, MN; Sandra Deaton of Spring, TX; Marty Divan of Cottonwood, AZ; sons Paul of Bethel, AK; and Steven of Benson, AZ; stepson Ken Pendergraft of Sheridan; stepdaughter Becky Salter, “retired nomad“; brother-in-law, Bob Martin of Casper; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. At his request, there will be no funeral service, although a memorial service will be arranged at a later date. Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.
