Joseph "Joe" Laverne Meyers

Joseph L. Meyers passed away on December 26, 2023, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Joe was born in Taylor, Nebraska on January 23, 1936, to Wayne and Ferne (Bishop) Meyers.
At a young age his family moved to Ucross, Wyoming. He attended schools in Buffalo, Wyoming. In 1954 he moved to Weldona, Colorado. He married Vonnadel (Vonnie) Shipley in Fort Morgan, Colorado on December 12, 1957. He worked in the oilfields, on missile base sites and road construction in Colorado. In 1967 the family moved to Gillette, Wyoming where he worked in the oilfields and for Amax Coal Company. In 1979 they moved to Sheridan, Wyoming where he and his wife opened and operated Custom Mufflers & Accessories from August 1979 to December 1998. After retiring they spent the winters in Yuma, Arizona until recently.
Joe enjoyed driving stock cars in the early 70’s and after moving to Sheridan there were many motorcycle trips that took him to many places along with many snowmobile adventures in the Big Horns, Yellowstone, Cooke City, and Saratoga. These adventures always included family and/or friends. He has numerous lifelong friends that he enjoyed enormously and who brought many wonderful times to his life.
Joe is survived by his wife, Vonnie. Two sons Dean (Shelly) and Dennis (Debbie) Meyers from Gillette, Wyoming. A daughter, Diana (Tom) Riesen of Sheridan. His grandchildren: Dustin (Ashlie) Meyers, Cody (Chelsea) Meyers, Tashina Meyers, Dani (Dan) Smith, Josh Robinson, Tyler Riesen and Lane Riesen. His great-grandchildren: Zack and Zane Meyers, Paiton and Paxton Christopherson, Cash, Cooper and Charli Meyers, and Rhett, Reese, and Ryan Meyers.
He is preceded in death his parents, his stepfather (A.O. Bisher), two sisters (Dotty Farmer & Maggie Miles), a brother and wife (Marlon and Carole Bisher) and his grandson, Michael Dean Meyers.
A joint day with Vonnie his loving wife of 67 years A Celebration Of Life Open House with a Reception will be held on Friday March 15, 2024 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Kane Reception Hall at Kane Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to The Sheridan Recreation Fund (Sheridan Recreation District), PO Box 6308, Sheridan, WY 82801 to benefit the youth sports that he enjoyed watching or The HUB, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.
