John L. Owings
About:
Johnnie Lee Owings, 69, passed away peacefully at his home on January 9th. John was born on December 27th to Lelin & Patricia “Sook” (née Doyle) Owings at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Although John was Native American of the Crow Indian Tribe, he was raised in Sheridan. In school he was a decorated athlete. In his spare time, John learned to hunt, fish, camp, and found an affinity for motorcycles; skills that he carried on throughout his life. In 2000, John gained sobriety and was one of the founding members of the KIS AA Group. John was very proud of his sobriety and shared that energy with others. He had a nearly 40 year career with the Railroad, retiring to enjoy the great outdoors. Later in life, John met and fell in love with Tucker, a 10 lbs Yorkie. From then on, wherever John was, so was Tucker. When they weren’t spending time fishing, hunting, or camping, you would likely find them enjoying a motorcycle ride or watching football. John was a diehard fan of the Denver Broncos. John is preceded in death by his father, Lelin, his mother, Sook, his brother, Jeff, and his sister, Shelly. John is survived by his beloved dog Tucker, his sister Shannon Chambers, his sons, Dooz, Perry, and Casey, and his daughter Rhonda. John had many grandchildren that he loved dearly as well as a large extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews. John wished to be cremated and placed next to his Dad in the Big Horn Mountains, a place they both loved so dearly. A Celebration of Life will be held January 30th at 11:00am held at The Fraternal Order of the Eagles #186 located at 850 N. Main Street in Sheridan Wyoming.
