Joe Maier
About:
Our loving and amazing Dad and Grandpa, Joe Maier, went to heaven on the morning of October 28th. He was born in Neufra, Germany on April 27th, 1938, to a loving family of seven. Joe had countless beautiful stories to tell about his life in Germany and was very proud of his heritage. As a young boy, Joe was drawn to the United States due to a fond memory he shared of receiving his first piece of chocolate gifted to him by an American soldier during WWII. He raced home to show his mother his prized sweet which later he divided between three buddies who, as he explained, were just as excited as he was. Through his early years and into his teens he worked tirelessly as an apprentice painter performing work in his small town and surrounding area. At the age of nineteen he boarded a passenger ship destined for the land of opportunity. As a trained painter Joe worked for decades painting beautiful homes and ranches until he worked at Fort Phil Kearny beautifying many buildings with his skills and the touch of his paintbrush. He put his career on pause during his twenties to serve in the army, which eventually provided him citizenship and the ability to create a legacy and newfound adventures. Joe loved his wonderful life and every aspect of his treasured community and friends. He continually expressed how much he felt at home in the charming town of Sheridan, and was thankful for all the cherished memories that the residents granted him. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and skiing for many years in the Big Horn mountains, marveling at their gorgeous grasslands and stunning peaks and valleys. Of all the blessings Joe held dear throughout his life, he loved his family the most. He gave each of us enough love to fill our hearts for our lifetimes. We will hold tight to that love and keep him close to our hearts. Not a day will go by when Joe Maier is not missed.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Jan who he missed dearly and his special family in Germany.
He is survived by his daughter Gina (Curt) Brott and their sons Wilson (Grace), Mitch and Paul. He is also survived by his son John and his sons Josef and Ryan. Private Graveside Services for Josef Maier 86, formally of Sheridan, will be held Friday November 29, 2024 at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with a gathering of his family and friends at the Pony bar and Grill at 1:00 pm.
