Iris Briggs was born on June 28^th 1963 at 5:00pm in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edna Colby DeSpain and Ira Evan Design. She has 5 siblings: Debora Maurice Green, Diane Thane Eld, Dorraine DeSpain, Sherri Kerry Rhodes and Glenn Virginia DeSpain.

Iris was a gifted homemaker. Her home was not just a place; it was a sanctuary filled with warmth, laughter, and creativity. Whether it was the aroma of her home-cooked meals, fresh baked breads & pies or the inviting atmosphere she crafted, she had a unique way of making everyone feel welcome. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, and many found comfort in her presence.

As a seamstress, Iris possessed an extraordinary talent for transforming fabric into beautiful creations. Each stitch she made was infused with her love and care. She didn’t just sew clothes; she created memories. From Halloween costumes that sparked joy in her children’s eyes to quilts that told stories of family gatherings, her work was a testament to her creativity and thoughtfulness.

Her passion for quilting brought her immense joy and allowed her to connect with others who shared her love for this art. Each quilt she crafted was a masterpiece, representing her patience and dedication. She poured her heart into every design, often incorporating colors and patterns that held special meaning to her and for her family. Her quilts will forever be cherished heirlooms, warm reminders of her love.

But perhaps the most significant aspect of Iris's life was her role as a mother. My brother Jason and myself truly were the lights of her life. She made sure we were loved, and she told us often. Her friends would often say “The way she spoke of you filled her with pride, and she often shared stories that made everyone smile.”  No matter what our circumstances or the challenges we faced she always showed up as our mother first.  Our mom was our biggest fan. The love she had for us was boundless and unwavering.

As we reflect on mom's life, let us remember her laughter, her kindness, and the countless ways she enriched our lives. Let’s carry forward her legacy of love and creativity, keeping her spirit alive in our hearts.

In closing, I invite everyone to hold onto the memories of our mom Iris and her warmth, her artistry, and most importantly, the deep love she had for her family. May we continue to honor her by nurturing those connections and embracing the creativity she instilled in us.

A service will be held on Friday, October 4th 2024 starting at 10:00AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latte-rDay Saints officiated by Bishop Zent. A reception will follow at the church immediately after the service.
