Irene C. Edwards, 89, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the Westview Health Care Center. Irene was born April 25, 1929, in Las Animas, CO, to Ray and Allie (Owen) Winters. She grew up on the family ranch in Eastern CO, and attended a country school at Arlington, CO. She was married to Mickey Edwards on June 26, 1944, they were married for seventy two years with two kids out of that marriage, Ernie and Janice. She also attended Heimans Business College after she moved to Sheridan.Irene grew up in depression times and during WWII. Her mother died when she was seven, also leaving an older brother Glen and a younger brother Ed “Jr.” who was three years of age. She spent most of her time on horse back, as her dad, needed the kids to help run the ranch. Irene loved horses and often said a great day was when you were on a good horse working cattle.Irene was a avid reader, liked rodeos, bull riding and basketball, in general like sports. She played women\'s volleyball at the YMCA and won several trophies in Sheridan. She moved to Sheridan in 1951, worked for Holly Sugar and was the first Home Health Aid in Sheridan County. She had a long running battle with the disease Lupus, but was determined not to let it control her life. She knew she couldn\'t out run it, but she would give it her best shot.Irene was preceded in death by parents Ray and Allie, husband, Mickey in 2017, a daughter, Janice, in 1991, son, Ernie in 2015, two brothers Glen and Ed Winters. She is survived by daughter in law Glenda Edwards, six grandchildren, Shawna Hampshire of Banner, Shane  (Chistine) Hampshire of Leiter, Echo O\'Brien of Glendale, AZ, Cody O\'Brien of Phoenix, AZ, Rhondel (Ken) Kraus of Garner, IA, Kyle ( Amy) Edwards of Plymouth, IA, Keaton (Nichole) Edwards of Manly, IA and nine great grand children. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 15, 2019, at the Cornerstone Church with Pastor Tony Forman officiating.Kane Funeral Home has been etrusted with arrangements.
