George (Pidge) Johnson passed away November 18, 2019. He was born in Sheridan to John Jay and Rose Marguerite Johnson. His paternal grandfather, John Johnson, was an early Sheridan pioneer and stonemason whose skills are visible in many downtown buildings including the Courthouse, Elks Lodge, and Perkins Building. Pidge grew up on Val Vista Street with his five siblings and nearby aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family was paramount to him and he kept in close contact with all his relatives, wherever they scattered.Pidge was the ultimate \"nice guy\". He enjoyed fishing up and down Pass Creek, picking chokecherries for his friends, meeting his buddies at McDonalds, getting free cookies at the bank, and eating breakfast at Perkins with Chris-always using a coupon.Pidge served in the Army as a surveyor and was stationed in the Philippines and Okinawa. He graduated from the University of Wyoming and worked for the Wyoming Highway Department until his retirement.Pidge was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry, John, and Charley, his sisters, Barbara Burkhardt and Anna Wyatt, and his nieces, Janis Johnson and Sherri (Ekis/Fairweather) Robertson. He is survived by his sister in law, Susan Johnson, his nephews, Mike Bates, Doug Johnson, Greg Johnson and Matthew Muntean, his nieces, Patty Mueller, D\'Ann Johnson, Angie O\'Brien, and Michelle Muntean and numerous great nieces and nephews. The passing of Uncle George leaves a hole in our hearts.The family would like to thank the staff of the VA and Devoted to Home for their tireless efforts to help Pidge stay in his own home.Pidge will be buried in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military honors at a later date.
