Etta Rowland Hammer was born in Gillette, Wyoming and grew up on the family ranch, a homestead near Recluse, Wyoming. She had six brothers and sisters including her twin Edith. She attended country schools and graduated high school from Saint Martin\'s Academy boarding school in Sturgis, South Dakota, class of 1946. Her parents were Peter Francis and May Snoddy Rowland.Etta became a Registered Nurse after studying at Carroll College in Helena, Montana, with post-graduate work at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Her early nursing career took her to Warm Springs, Montana, and Tucson, Arizona, and she worked at the old Sheridan Hospital including helping with the move to the “new” hospital in 1954.She married Richard Hammer on September 11, 1954. He survives her as do their five children: Edward (Cathy) of Billings; Patricia Davis (Keith) and Richard (Jamie) of Sheridan; Joseph (Elaine) of Ridgewood, NJ, and Jerry (Holli Garrett) of Salt Lake City. She has seven grandchildren and one great-granchild, Olivia Etta Hammer.The family requests no flowers and suggests memorial gifts to a charity of the donor\'s choice.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
