About:

The family of Earl C. Voogd Jr. of Sheridan, Wyoming is saddened to announce his unexpected passing on Saturday, April 13th at the age of 75. Earl was born on July 3rd, 1948, to his parents, Earl and Klarene Voogd.

He embarked on a remarkable journey of service, beginning in 1965 when he joined the U.S Navy. Earl dedicated 22 years of his life to the Navy, achieving the rank of Senior Chief. Upon retiring from the Navy, Earl continued to serve his community in various capacities. He lent his bravery as a firefighter for the Julian Cuyamaca Fire Department, spent many years as the dam keeper at Lake Cuyamaca, and contributed his skills as a Maintenance Ranger to Helix Water District at Lake Jennings. Upon retirement from Helix in 2021, Earl returned back home to his roots in Sheridan.

Earl was a beacon of joy, known for his infectious personality and trademark rainbow suspenders. Earl's silly jokes and laughter will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gail. He is survived by his sister, Barbra Rich, brothers Wayne and Bruce Voogd, and his children: Shane Voogd, Shawn Voogd (and daughter Mariah), and Sandra Mershon (and her children/grandchildren Michael, Amanda, Brian, Charles, Kaden, Hadley, Myles). Earl is also survived by step-children Kristi Lokensgard and Joel Silva (and his daughter Kristen), along with numerous other relatives and cherished friends.

Per Earl's wishes, cremation will take place, and his ashes will be scattered in the mountains and beach alongside those of his beloved wife and faithful dog. In honor of Earl's memory, let us cherish the joy he brought into our lives and continue to share his love for laughter and connection.

As Earl would want, let us remember his favorite joke: "Where do you find most of the fish?..... Between the head and the tail!"
