Charles Bruce Carpenter, 83, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018, at the Sheridan Manor.Bruce was born on April 24, 1935 to parents Allen and Virginia (Smith) Carpenter in Danbury, WI. His family moved to Montana during the depression. When Bruce was 14 he began working on ranches he also worked in the woods with his dad.Bruce joined the Army and served a tour in Germany. He was an excellent marksman. His MOS was cook. Dad was a great cook.He married Loa Pierce in May 1956 in St Ignatius, Montana.Bruce and Loa had 4 children. He was a devoted husband and father. He cared for Loa during her 20 year battle with Alzhiemers. They where married 51 years.As young man he loved to rodeo. He was a bronc rider and won belt buckles and prize money. He won enough money in Cheyenne to purchase a 1953 Ford. He also gathered wild horses for Rankin to use as rough stock in the rodeos in White Sulfur Springs.Ranching was his passion. He managed ranches in Montana and Wyoming most of his adult life.He worked for Decker Coal as a haul truck driver for a short time. He loved fishing and hunting with his family and friends. Many great stories and memories where created during hunting trips.Bruce was a member of the National Cattleman\'s Association and was the President of the Red Poll Association. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the V.F.W.Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Loa Carpenter, sisters Margaret Phelps, Joan Jacobson, and Lorraine Voss. He is survived by his children Loa (Bill) Francis of Farson, WY, Marcella (Scott) Ring of Spring Creek, NV, Gerry (Gary) Smith of Texarkana, TX, Charles (Lissa) Carpenter of Sheridan, WY, sister Susan Floretta of Ranchester, WY, seventeen grandchildren and more than 30 great grandchildren.Thank you to the staff at Sheridan Manor for their compassionate care.A Visitation will be held at 9:00 am prior to the Service at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at The Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints. Interment will be in the Elks Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors. A reception will follow at the Church.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
