Carlos E. Baxter

Carlos Baxter, of Sheridan, Wyoming, died on the 31st of December, 2019, at the age of 91.Mr. Baxter, a longtime resident of Sheridan, was born in Pierre, South Dakota, and lived in Iowa and California before retiring to Sheridan.He served in the United States Army during WWII, achieving the rank of Corporal. He earned the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal during his service, very proud of serving as in interpreter in Germany, helping to interrogate prisoners of war.Though trained as a medical lab technician, and a pharmacy technician, Mr. Baxter chose to take the civil service exam upon separation from the Army, and pursued a career with the Los Angeles, California Post Office, rising to the position of supervisor in the Terminal Annex Box Division. He had many stories of his work days, chief among them his being only a few feet away from a mail bomb explosion in 1978.He was a simple man, and greatly enjoyed his life in Sheridan among a few select friends, who treated him as family. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl, his mother, Ida, and his sister, Dorcas. He is survived by four nieces, Diana Lombardi of California, Cheryl Weston, of Washington state, Robin Akens of Florida, and Lisa Weirda, of Colorado, and their children and grandchildren.Mr. Baxter will be interred at Fort Logan, Colorado, with full military honors in February.Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.
