Bette Reimers Hess
About:
Bette Reimers Hess, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Sheridan, Wyoming, with her daughters by her side on July 15, 2026.
Bette was born on September 16, 1932, on her family’s farm near Sholes, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Edmond and Lillian Kenny and the youngest of four children. She grew up on a farm outside of Carroll, Nebraska, and graduated from Carroll High School in 1950.
In 1952, Bette married Dean Reimers. They farmed in Nebraska for several years before moving to Wyoming in 1958. Together they raised three children: Bonnie, Tim, and Tammy. As a family, they enjoyed camping with friends in the Big Horn Mountains and created many treasured memories.
After Dean’s passing in 1977, Bette married Lloyd Hess in 1979. Lloyd had three married boys Dave (Brenda), Casey (Diane), Tim (Trish) from his previous marriage. Between them they had 15 grandkids.
Bette worked for 25 years as a beloved “lunch lady” at Taylor Elementary and Sagebrush Elementary Schools, where she was known for her kindness, caring nature, and friendly smile.
During their retirement, Bette and Lloyd enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling in their RV. Their travels took them to all 50 states and they spent 12 winters in Arizona. Lloyd passed away in 2006.
Bette found great joy in caring for her family and friends. She was active with bowling and YMCA water aerobics. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, the Big Horn Mountain Eagles, the Elks, the American Legion, and the VFW and a supporter of the Kalif Shrine Horse Patrol. She loved baking and canning, and few things made her happier than sharing her homemade treats with family and friends.
One of Bette’s most cherished traditions was hosting Thursday morning coffee, a gathering she faithfully shared with family, friends, and neighbors for 35 years. Those mornings were filled with laughter, conversation, and enduring friendships.
Bette will be remembered for her hardworking spirit, generous heart, unwavering love of family, and gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her kindness, quiet strength, and genuine warmth touched countless lives and will be deeply missed.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her two husbands, her son Tim Reimers, and step-sons Dave, Casey, and Tim Hess. She is survived by her daughters Bonnie (Dennis Zowada) and Tammy (Mark Heid), her daughter-in-law Cindy Reimers (Joe Lawrence), and her 15 grandchildren: Brian Zowada (Amber), Bret Zowada (Joni), Paul Zowada (Terra), Brittany Fox (Brian), Chelsey Cole (Aaron), Randy Reimers (Liz), Justin Heid (Julie), Zach Heid (Carrie), Emily White (Samuel), Bryan Hess (Chrissy), Rachel Meech (Dave), Katie Hess (Travis), Jenn Perkins, Chris Hess (Stephanie), and Brandy Forney.
