About:

Alice Mentock was a beautiful, strong, smart, hardworking woman of faith who raised seven boys in a home filled with games, love and laughter. Born Alice Georgetta Demchok on June 16, 1927 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Andrew Demchok and Minnie (O’Rourke) Demchok. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1945. Alice attended Saint Joseph’s Hospital nursing program in Denver, Colorado. After graduation, she worked at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. In the summer of 1949, she was swept off her feet by Raymond Mentock, a civil engineer from Dietz, Wyoming. The couple married at Saint Thomas Church in Monarch on November 24th, 1949(Thanksgiving Day).

Sheridan was home in the early years. Alice continued to work until their first son Richard was born in 1950. Three more sons were born in Sheridan: William, James, and Robert, who died in infancy in 1955. Ray’s work led them to move to Cody in 1956. Sons Thomas, Daniel, David and Timothy were born there. Alice and Ray bought a cabin in the Bighorns in 1975.  Many decades of mountain fun followed for the family, especially games of croquet and walks along the south fork of the Tongue River.

The smells emanating from Alice’s kitchen were always amazing - be it from dozens and dozens of cabbage rolls, loaves of strutsla and banana bread or trays of someone’s favorite cookie.

It is noteworthy that each of Alice’s sons insist that they were her favorite - a testament to the depth and breadth of her love, be it for her boys, her daughters-in-law, her grandchildren or her great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ray, son William and infant son Robert. She is survived by her sister Kate, brothers-in-law Peter Doyle and Bill Mentock, sons Richard (Sabrina), Jim (Donna), Tom (Sarah), Dan (Tricia), Dave (Deryn), and Tim. Grandchildren, Jessica (Allen), Devon (Jerry), Katy, Ryan (Lisa), Shannon (Michael), Allyson (Ryan), Andrew (Emily), Erick, Jordan (Tyler), Derek, Jaron, Kellen and Nicholas. Great grandchildren: Megan, Bridgette, Bradley, Lola, Gunnar, Ryker, Odessa, Samantha, Micheala, Josephine, Roman, Townes and Thomas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews far and wide: the Sheridan, Colorado and New Mexico Demchoks, the Doyles, the Schuberts, the Baders, the Emmes and the Christophers.

Alice was a devoted member of Holy Name Church, and St. Anthony’s Parish of Cody and a member of a block rosary group with many close friends for decades. She was an independent person for much of her life. Her family would like to thank all of the many caring people who helped her when she needed help. We appreciate it so much.
